A delegation from Russia’s elite Airborne Forces has arrived in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, to begin initial consultations on hosting joint military drills with Nicaraguan troops, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Monday.

The six-day visit marks the first official step toward organizing joint tactical exercises between the two nations, highlighting deepening military ties between Moscow and the Central American country.

“Over the course of the visit, Russian military specialists will engage in a series of discussions with their Nicaraguan counterparts regarding the participation of Russian Airborne Forces in future joint exercises on Nicaraguan soil,” the ministry stated.

The consultations aim to define key aspects of the planned drills, including the training schedule, unit participation, and logistical coordination. The exercises are expected to focus on tactical operations and military readiness.

This initiative comes amid broader efforts by Russia to strengthen its defense partnerships in Latin America, signaling a potential shift in geopolitical dynamics in the region.
