The UF PRO P-40 Mark I Range Pants were conceived with a clear and specific objective: to meet the unique needs of competitive shooters and range professionals who demand maximum mobility, rapid access to gear, and enduring comfort during high-intensity movement. In a market saturated with general-purpose tactical pants, the Mark I Range Pants stand apart as a specialized garment tailored for dynamic performance in controlled environments such as shooting competitions, training facilities, and range operations.

At the heart of their design is the principle of mobility without compromise. To achieve this, UF PRO has constructed the Mark I pants from a carefully selected blend of materials that prioritize weight reduction, breathability, and stretch. The main fabric consists of a durable polyamide (nylon) base, infused with elastane to provide multidirectional flexibility. This material choice ensures that the pants remain lightweight—approximately 450 grams for a medium size—while also offering the resilience necessary to withstand frequent kneeling, crouching, and sprinting commonly encountered during competitive shooting drills.

The weight is the first surprise when unboxing the product. Well protected box feels, well, kind of empty. Only when you open it do you find the product in the protective sleeve which is a nice touch if used in organizing your gear in the closet down the road.

Unlike traditional combat pants, which often include multiple reinforcements and additional layers for harsh field environments, the UF PRO P-40 Mark I Range pants strips away all non-essential bulk. This lean design philosophy reduces noise, enhances breathability, and improves response time—allowing the wearer to move swiftly and confidently through various shooting stages without being weighed down. The strategic placement of bi-elastic stretch panels—particularly around the lower back, hips, and upper buttocks—further facilitates unrestrained motion, which is critical during complex movement sequences and shooting on the move.

The purpose-driven tailoring is also evident in the overall cut and silhouette of the pants. Unlike the baggier profiles of general-purpose tactical wear, the Mark I Range Pants adopt a cleaner, more athletic profile that hugs the contours of the body without restricting motion. This streamlined design minimizes fabric snagging and drag while maintaining a professional, competition-ready aesthetic. Additionally, the pants are free from noisy Velcro adjustments, flapping cargo flaps, or extraneous pocketing—every element serves a clear function rooted in the needs of active shooters.

One of the most important aspects of their design is the integration with modern shooting gear, particularly belt systems. The pants are optimized to work with competition-grade range belts, inner/outer belt setups, and tactical holsters, all of which require a stable platform. Features such as the dual-layer belt loop system and the 3D back support pad are seamlessly woven into the design, enhancing the user’s ability to carry and draw gear smoothly and securely.

Another standout feature of the Mark I is its six-pocket layout, carefully arranged for speed and accessibility. Rather than overloading the garment with unnecessary storage, UF PRO has focused on delivering just the right number and placement of pockets. The front and side pockets are ergonomically angled and lined with stretch panels or retention features, allowing for secure carriage of competition essentials like range timers, spare magazines, multitools, or notepads. In a nod to professional sportsmanship, UF PRO has even included a dedicated sponsor panel area on the side of the leg—providing a place for logos, identification patches, or team branding during official events. Front pockets themselves do not interfere with shooting gear, positioning their contents away from the shooting gear, so even if you are fully loaded nothing will interfere with each other, nor will there be any difficulty in handling the content of the pockets.

In terms of its broader purpose, the P-40 Mark I is not intended as an all-terrain or combat-duty pant. Rather, it occupies a very deliberate niche: high-performance shooting sports and training environments. It excels in scenarios where agility, rapid response, and streamlined gear interaction are paramount, and where the absence of knee-pad inserts or heavy-duty abrasion panels is a trade-off worth making for speed and flexibility.

Stitching and Material Quality of the UF PRO P-40 Mark I Range Pants

The UF PRO P-40 Mark I Range Pants reflect a high standard of craftsmanship that is evident from the moment they’re handled. While the pants are designed for lightweight performance and high mobility, they do not sacrifice structural integrity. Both the stitching and material selection are consistent with what one would expect from a premium European tactical clothing manufacturer with a reputation for outfitting military and law enforcement professionals.

The primary fabric used throughout the pants is a blend of 91% polyamide (nylon) and 9% elastane, offering a durable yet elastic platform that supports movement without becoming flimsy. Polyamide is well-regarded for its high abrasion resistance and resistance to tearing, while the elastane blend ensures the pants flex naturally during physical activity.

In the case of the Mark I, this combination hits a sweet spot—light enough for range work and gym use, yet strong enough to handle aggressive kneeling, crawling, and equipment handling without the material deforming or fraying prematurely. Unlike cheaper synthetic blends, the fabric retains its shape and shows minimal wrinkling or stress lines, even after extended use under load-bearing belts.

In terms of construction, UF PRO employs double-stitching and bar tacking in key load-bearing and stress-prone areas, such as the belt loops, pocket corners, and seat.

The stitching is clean and precise, with no loose threads or visible inconsistencies along the seams. Reinforcement stitching is used judiciously, adding strength without adding bulk or interfering with comfort. For example, the belt loops are not just stitched to the waistband but integrated into the pant’s frame with reinforced layering—critical for those running a fully loaded competition or tactical belt. In several field tests involving belt-mounted gear and frequent rapid movement, there was no sign of seam creep or thread fatigue.

Another point of quality is the choice of closures and hardware. The YKK zipper on the fly is smooth, durable, and does not snag, while the snap-button closure at the waist is firm and secure. The absence of hook-and-loop fasteners in key areas such as the fly or cargo pockets also reflects a mature design philosophy: quieter, more reliable hardware that is less prone to wear out or collect debris over time. One point to note is that the YKK zipper goes both ways, allowing access from the top and bottom. Personally, I do not care for this option, and I prefer to stick to the tried and tested use of my personal parts. Snugs in that area might be detrimental for further generations.

In summary, the UF PRO P-40 Mark I Range Pants are constructed with a high degree of precision and use materials that support both comfort and resilience. The combination of high-tensile stretch fabric, reinforced stitching, and premium hardware results in a pant that is as functional as it is durable—ready to withstand the physical demands of serious shooters and range professionals, so long as they are used within their intended operational context.

Gym Evaluation: Performance in a Controlled Athletic Setting

Initial testing began in a gym environment to assess the pants’ freedom of movement, breathability, and comfort under physical load. The workout sessions included deep bodyweight squats, sled pushes, barbell lunges, core drills, and high-repetition plyometric movements (box jumps, burpees).

From the outset, the lightweight construction of the Mark I pants was immediately noticeable. Compared to traditional tactical trousers, the material felt breathable and non-restrictive, more akin to athletic wear than duty gear. The bi-elastic stretch zones in the seat and hip regions allowed for a full range of motion during squats and lunges—movements that typically expose weaknesses in rigid or poorly cut pants. Even when performing floor exercises, such as Russian twists or sit-ups, there was no bunching or tightness at the waist.

A standout feature during gym sessions was the 3D back support pad, integrated into the lower lumbar region. While nearly unnoticeable when standing, it provided a soft buffer during exercises involving contact with the floor or resistance applied across the lower back, such as farmer’s carries or deadlifts. The waistband stayed in place throughout—all without a belt—testament to the thoughtful cut and stretch dynamics. Sweat management was also commendable; despite a high-tempo circuit, the pants remained dry to the touch in key sweat zones thanks to the moisture-wicking properties of the polyamide/elastane blend.

Conclusion from Gym Testing: The Mark I pants function extremely well in a high-mobility training environment, providing unrestricted movement, minimal heat retention, and sustained comfort. Their athletic cut and stretch capabilities make them an ideal cross-training garment for shooters, incorporating functional fitness into their routine.

Range Evaluation: Functionality Under Tactical Conditions

The second phase of testing was conducted on an open-air shooting range over multiple sessions, using both rifle and handgun platforms. Drills included rapid transitions between standing, kneeling, and prone, lateral movement, reloads, and barricade engagements. Testing emphasized how well the pants integrated with a full belt setup, and whether they impeded or enhanced access to gear under realistic conditions.

Performance was consistent with the pants’ gym behavior: mobility was flawless. During lateral movement and rapid crouch-to-stand transitions, there was no drag or delay from the fabric. The mid-rise waistband offered a secure anchor point for a full-duty belt without pinching or slippage, even when fully loaded with magazines and an  IPSC holster. The dual-layer belt loop system was especially appreciated; the inner belt tunnel kept the underbelt tight to the body, while the external loops held the range belt rock solid with no vertical shift.

Another ergonomic benefit was pocket accessibility. Angled front pockets proved ideal for stashing and retrieving a range timer or multitool, and their elastic-lined openings held contents firmly in place without requiring extra closures. These pockets were especially easy to reach without interfering with the holster draw stroke or belt pouches.

Notably, over hours of testing in mild heat, the pants never felt clammy or heavy. The ventilated stretch panels and lightweight fabric ensured consistent airflow, and even in dust and gravel conditions, the material resisted abrasion without showing immediate wear.

Conclusion from Range Testing: On the range, the Mark I pants delivered everything expected of a high-performance competition garment. They facilitated unrestricted movement, integrated cleanly with belt setups, and provided fast, secure access to critical tools. From shooting on the move to gear retention under stress, the pants performed at a professional level.

Observations and Final Remarks

Across both gym and range environments, the UF PRO P-40 Mark I Range Pants proved to be a purpose-built garment with few compromises. They excel where mobility, gear integration, and comfort are prioritized over ruggedness and field-duty protection. Their lightweight, strategic stretch zones, and belt-friendly features support a full day of movement-heavy activity without fatigue, chafing, or gear shift.

These pants are clearly not designed for rough terrain or heavy-duty field abuse, and they lack knee pad compartments or Cordura reinforcements. However, for competitive shooters, instructors, and professionals who train in structured environments or teach high-intensity courses, the Mark I offers a near-ideal combination of tactical utility and athletic function.

One unexpectedly appreciated feature of the UF PRO P-40 Mark I Range Pants is their high degree of “wife-friendliness”—a lighthearted but practical nod to domestic convenience. Thanks to the synthetic polyamide-elastane blend, the pants require no ironing after machine washing; they emerge from the dryer or air-dry line with minimal to no wrinkles, retaining their shape and clean lines without fuss. This makes them ideal for frequent use without adding laundry-day overhead. Additionally, the fast-drying properties of the fabric are a major advantage—whether after a wash or a rainy range day, the pants are dry and ready to wear again in a matter of hours, far quicker than traditional cotton-blend tactical trousers. For anyone sharing household chores or simply trying to avoid gear that causes more work at home, the Mark I Range Pants offer a refreshingly low-maintenance solution.
